Erik’s Fat Boy Motivation: brought to you by my Bride!

Confessions of a formerly skinny chick: episode two: calories are your friend
I don’t know why nutrition is something that sticks in my craw so much, but it is. Here’s the truth: I’m 5’4”. According to the BMI scale 115-138 is a healthy weight for me. (This is crap). I have been as low as 110 (unhealthily) and as high as almost 170 (ditto). Why are we so focused on numbers; the “right” BMI, the number on the scale, counting those blasted calories!?
As the Fat Boy himself discussed the other day, muscle weighs more than fat. Let me tell you something about calories- they are a unit of measure.
Calorie: the energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water through 1 °C (now usually defined as 4.1868 joules).
noun: small calorie; plural noun: small calories
How we see calories- how much food “costs” us. Reality check- if we are eating the right stuff we don’t need to stress about calories- they are our fuel that runs our precision machine- our body!
When I ate low cal stuff all day I lost weight, but I did not gain the muscle I could, and the minute I stopped, the pounds packed on.
Instead of counting calories, count chemicals!! If you fuel your body with good stuff, you will get good stuff (eg. performance, weight loss, toning…)
Clean eating, lean proteins, fruits, veggies, these are your friends! Don’t worry as much about their caloric content or cost, but use them to fuel you to get to where you want to be.
Until next time
